Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are expressing their hope for Kate, the Princess of Wales, to recover from her cancer diagnosis and regain her health.
“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family,” Harry and Meghan mentioned in a statement on Friday obtained by ITK. The couple expressed their desire for Kate, who is married to Harry’s brother, Prince William, to recuperate privately and peacefully.
The statement came hours after 42-year-old Kate announced in a video posted on social media that she had been diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery in January.
“It’s been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family,” Kate said.
The medical update followed weeks of intense press coverage and speculation about Kate’s health and extended absence from public appearances following the surgery, which had been announced by Kensington Palace.
Harry and Meghan’s relationship with much of the British royal family has appeared strained following last year’s release of his tell-all memoir “Spare.” The couple stepped down as full-time working members of the royal family and moved to California in 2020, later saying racism played a role in their decision to step back from their senior positions.
King Charles III, who Buckingham Palace said last month had also been diagnosed with cancer following a procedure for an enlarged prostate, shared a message for Kate, saying he was “so proud” of his daughter-in-law for her “courage in speaking as she did.”
“Both Their Majesties will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time,” a statement from Buckingham Palace said, according to multiple news reports.
