Piers Morgan has criticized Stephen Colbert and other talk show hosts in the US for their recent coverage of Kate Middleton.
On Friday, the Princess of Wales released a video announcing that she has been diagnosed with cancer, and is privately been undergoing chemotherapy.
This comes after intense speculation surrounding the 42-year-old’s whereabouts dominated headlines around the world – which ramped up last week after Kensington Palace released a doctored image of the princess with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
During a segment on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week, the host discussed rumors of Kate’s marriage to Prince William, while fellow comedian John Oliver weighed in with shocking jokes on Watch What Happens Live.
Whoopi Goldberg leapt to the Royal’s defense on the View, branding the debate over the edited Mother’s Day picture ‘irritating’.
Following the news of Kate’s cancer, Piers rushed to Twitter to condemn those who made jokes or comments at her expense.
He slated: ‘The way certain American talk show hosts like @StephenAtHome mocked the Princess of Wales over her marriage in recent weeks now looks especially distasteful.’
Neither John or Stephen have spoken out since her illness was made public.
In footage released earlier today, Kate explained that she had abdominal surgery at the London Clinic on January 16, for what was then believed to be a non-cancerous condition – however, biopsy results showed that cancer was present.
She has since been undergoing preventative chemotherapy and has been recovering from both the surgery and the treatment in the past three months.
It happened the same time as King Charles was also getting treatment.
‘It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful,’ she told the public in the moving clip.
‘This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.
‘It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.
‘But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay.’
‘As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits,’ she added.

Celebrities have lined up to pay tribute sending good wishes to the princess on social media.

Gary Lineker tweeted: 'Terrible news. Wishing The Princess of Wales a full recovery.'
Comedian Judi Love also commented: 'After weeks of speculation and continuous gossip, Princess Kate is facing a battle with Cancer.'
'Honestly, if people don't take away a lesson from this to respect people's space and privacy, I don't know what to say!! Wishing her a swift recovery.'
