WWE They are reviving the Slammys after almost four years.
The entertainment company is filling this year’s WrestleMania 40 celebrations with many events around the doubleheader on April 6 and 7.
Earlier on Sunday, WWE announced The Slammys: The Fans Choice Awards, which will be shown live on WWE’s social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube and Twitch.
WWE superstar Big E, who has been out of action since suffering a serious in-ring injury to his neck in March 2022, will host the event with Cathy Kelley.
The event will happen at WWE World at WrestleMania, which is the company’s version of a convention, with panels, events, meet and greets, memorabilia and more.
WWE also pledged ‘special guest appearances from additional WWE superstars’ for the awards, as the company commends ‘the very best achievements across the WWE Universe over the past year’.
The Slammys – which are essentially WWE’s own version of the Grammys or the Oscars, with a mix of humorous and more serious awards – started in 1986.
They have been held sporadically over the years, with the longest period being from 2008 to 2015, before a break until December 2020.
Now they are returning, with voting open for the next few days until March 27.
Combining elements of the previous Fan Axxess events and last year’s WrestleMania Superstore, WWE World is part of a collaboration with Fanatics Events.
The special event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center will offer ‘a variety of immersive experiences for fans’, including a main stage hosting discussions with top WWE Superstars.
Also featured at WWE World are a WWE 2K24 gaming tournament as well as live podcast recordings, and live memorabilia and autograph sales through Fanatics Live.
There will be a lot of exclusive merchandise, autograph sessions and meet-and-greets with famous WWE stars and legends from the past, plus ‘immersive exhibits and memorabilia honoring WrestleMania’s 40-year history’.
