A big change of the PS5 main screen seems to be coming soon, as the new user interface is apparently being beta tested in the US.
Sony hasn’t been very talkative lately, but they haven't officially announced a new user interface for the PlayStation 5 dashboard yet, even though it looks like one is on the way.
A PlayStation YouTuber has recently posted a video showing the new user interface in great detail, pointing out changes like the ability to customize the background image.
The Explore page now also displays trophies, controller and headset battery life, and the remaining storage space. Additionally, you can customize the content to focus on the types of games you play, although you can't freely move the new widgets around.
According to YouTuber Mystic, the update is in beta in the US, but there have been no other reports about it so far.
Currently, the Explore page is mainly filled with game news, which Mystic refers to as ads, so it's surprising that Sony would want to remove that.
However, you can choose from various layout styles, with one specifically for showing information about single-player games, and another for multiplayer titles.
The reason behind the 'Top Rated' preset isn't entirely clear, but it seems to bring back some of the news content.
Although it's not a complete overhaul, the changes appear to be helpful, with the only noteworthy problem being that you can't import images from a USB drive to use as your backdrop – you seem to have to use screenshots you've already taken and are in the Media Library.
Mystic almost certainly isn't supposed to be sharing any of this publicly, so there's a chance the video could be removed by the time you read this.
In any case, it's likely that the update will be officially announced and released quite soon, as everything in the video seems to be working perfectly already.
