President Biden’s campaign argued that the budget proposal from the Republican Study Committee (RSC) was taken directly from former President Trump’s wishlist for another term.
The group, consisting of almost 80 percent of House Republicans, proposed raising the retirement age for those not near retirement to accommodate longer life expectancy. They also support legislation that would impose restrictions on abortion, potentially affecting in vitro fertilization.
The Biden campaign communications director, Michael Tyler, stated, “Donald Trump’s MAGA allies in Congress made it clear today: a vote for Trump is a vote to make the MAGA 2025 agenda of cutting Social Security, limiting access to IVF, and banning abortion nationwide a hellish reality.”
“While Trump and his allies advance their extreme agenda, the American people are observing – and they’ll turn out to reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris this November,” Tyler said.
Biden has frequently promised to safeguard Social Security and Medicare and has consistently criticized Republicans for any potential threats to these programs.
The Biden campaign focused on remarks made by Trump in a recent CNBC interview, where he stated, “There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements.” Trump has subsequently retracted his comments, stating, “I will never do anything that will jeopardize or harm Social Security or Medicare.”
