Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) organized a hearing on the supposed problem she called “Black Market Baby Organ Harvesting.”
Greene has been promoting conspiracy theories supported by anti-abortion activists. She claimed that abortion providers are removing organs from babies born alive and conducting experiments on them. This statement is false. This does not occur. A social media user pointed out that what she described is murder.
Despite this, Greene went ahead with the hearing and also expressed her intention to remove a law that protects people entering reproductive health clinics from violence.
The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) was put into effect in 1994 with support from both sides of the political spectrum. It makes it a federal crime to physically obstruct, intimidate, or interfere with anyone trying to access reproductive health services. It also prohibits property damage and attempted arson. The Department of Justice clarifies that the FACE Act protects all patients, providers, and facilities that offer reproductive health services, including pro-life pregnancy counseling services. It also safeguards free speech, permitting peaceful demonstrations outside clinics and the distribution of anti-abortion materials.
During the hearing, Greene mentioned her intention to repeal the FACE Act if given the opportunity. Greene also accused abortion providers of profiting from the murder of unborn babies, a claim that has been proven to be false. The accusations may be linked to the debunked claim from 2015 that Planned Parenthood was selling fetal tissue for profit, which failed because of legal entrapment. David Daleiden, who was involved in this attempt, spoke at Greene's hearing.
Greene incorrectly stated that abortion is widely available in every state, when in fact, 28 states have restrictive abortion laws.
Greene also asserted during the hearing that abortion is the murder of a child.
Greene's hearing has been criticized on social media for spreading false information and creating fear. One progressive account pointed out that the research is conducted under ethical standards and laws, and accused Greene of deliberately distorting facts for political purposes. They mentioned that Greene's portrayal of researchers preying on live babies is not only scientifically absurd but is also an attempt to undermine trust in science and medical ethics for political gain.
Greene has faced strong criticism on social media for promoting falsehoods and creating fear. identifies The notion of researchers preying on live babies for experiments is not just scientifically ludicrous; it’s an intentional deception aimed at conflating legal research with barbaric acts. This is not about protecting the unborn; it’s about undermining trust in science and medical ethics for political gain.
It wasn’t even the most strange part of her “baby organ harvesting” hearing.
Greene has been eviscerated on social media for creating a “cocktail of falsehoods and fearmongering designed to distort public perception.”
“This research is governed by stringent ethical standards and laws, contrary to the wild west scenario she’s painting,” one popular progressive account shared in response to Greene promoting the hearing. “The notion of researchers preying on live babies for experiments is not just scientifically ludicrous; it’s an intentional deception aimed at conflating legal research with barbaric acts. This is not about protecting the unborn; it’s about undermining trust in science and medical ethics for political gain.”
