Welcome to Seven in Seven, where we explore upcoming shows in the area for the next week. Whether you're into rock ’n’ roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter, or indie, there's always something worth checking out.
Here are seven of the top events happening during the week of March 22:
Matisyahu performing on Friday at Brooklyn Bowl
Matisyahu, a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and alternative reggae rock musician, has faced challenges on his current tour, which concludes on Friday with the second-to-last show at Brooklyn Bowl. Due to his support of Israel in its ongoing battle with Hamas, the American Jewish artist has had several shows canceled, some at the last minute. Like the most talented storytellers in history, Matisyahu shares stories that enlighten, captivate, and expand the audience’s sense of possibility. At the time of publication, the show in Philly was still scheduled. Hopefully, it will remain that way.
Psymon Spine's third album is a tribute to the contradiction of time and a joyous celebration of friendship and harmony in the midst of that contradiction. “Head Body Connector” is a raw and powerful studio album with a focus on guitars, created by a band that is passionate about production. It's also an album that, more than any of Psymon's previous releases, is directly influenced by the band's famously cathartic live performance. The result is a blend of Sonic Youth and YMO, and it revels in the spirit of the early 2000s New York dance punk and electroclash scenes. In other words, it's sure to be an exciting experience hearing the songs live.
Laetitia Sadier performing on Friday at Johnny Brenda’s
Laetitia Sadier, co-founder of Stereolab, released the latest LP “Rooting for Love,” which continues her exploration of the self through time, space, and shared consciousness. The album is infused with the intensity of a tumultuous world, crumbling establishments, and her deeply involved process of self-expression. Featuring organs, guitars, bass, synths, trombones, vibraphones, live and programmed drums, the album is led by Sadier’s sensitive presence, guiding a group including a choir of men and women known as “The Choir,” as well as a talented ensemble from Laetitia’s Source Ensemble and beyond. It's an electrifying project designed for live performance.
Nickel Creek performing on Sunday at the American Music Theater
Nickel Creek, a trio that surpassed their individual talents, made a mark on bluegrass and folk music in the early 2000s, marking the beginning of what fans now know as Americana music. After meeting as young children and earning the respect of the bluegrass community for a decade, the group signed with respected label Sugar Hill Records in 2000 and gained recognition with their Grammy-nominated self-titled LP produced by Alison Krauss. Since then, the trio has released four more studio albums, the latest being last year’s “Celebrants.” The current tour adds to an exceptional year for the band, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album for the record.
Claire Rosinkranz will be performing at The Theatre of Living Arts on Wednesday, March 27.
Claire Rosinkranz is recognized as a talented storyteller for the Gen-Z generation and has gained a strong following after the release of her debut song “Backyard Boy.” She has achieved a Gold certification for this song, won a MTV Trending Award, and received a “Social Star” nomination at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She has also toured with Alec Benjamin and performed at various music festivals. Don't miss the chance to see Rosinkranz at The TLA if you want to catch an up-and-coming artist in an intimate venue.
Guster will be performing at XL Live on Wednesday, March 27.
Guster will be coming to Harrisburg as part of their “We Also Have Eras Tour” and will be performing an extended “Evening with Guster” set that showcases their music from 1994 to the present. Their latest album, “Ooh La La,” will be released soon, and the upcoming show will offer a preview of their new material, including the single “Keep Going.”
Kitchen Dwellers will be performing at The Capitol Room at HMAC on Wednesday, March 27.
The Kitchen Dwellers, a bluegrass band from Montana, will bring their unique blend of bluegrass, folk, and rock to Harrisburg. Their latest record, “Seven Devils,” is inspired by Dante’s “The Divine Comedy” and is meant to take the listener on a musical journey inward. The band promises to deliver a similar experience during their live performance.
