David Velasquez had a rough St. Patrick’s Day and then was attacked by a stranger in West Hollywood who yelled homophobic slurs.
Velasquez had been to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center because he felt sick. He went to a supermarket to pick up his medicine and almost got hit by a car while riding his scooter. Worried about drunk drivers, he rode on the sidewalk even though it’s against the law. As he passed a restaurant, a man slapped him off his scooter.
“Suddenly, he slapped me and knocked off my helmet, hitting me in the face,” Velasquez told WeHo Times. They started arguing. Velasquez said, “Then he started hitting me, trying to throw my phone, and bashing my head while holding me down, saying ‘Die f**got, die.’”
The attack ended when another man got involved. The attacker, who was likely drunk, ran away before the police arrived. Another woman said she would press charges against the man for assaulting her.
Velasquez got a cut lip, head trauma, bruising, and bleeding from the attack. Police are asking for anonymous tips about the attack at (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or LACrimeStoppers.org.
