Last year, Thai women were ranked as the third most common foreign wives married to Korean men, following Vietnam and China, according to Statistics Korea, as reported by Korea Times on Tuesday.
In the previous year, out of 19,700 international marriages registered in South Korea, 14,700 involved a Korean husband and a foreign wife, which rose to 22.5 percent from the year before.
Vietnam is the highest at 33.5 percent, while China is second at 18.1 percent. Thai wives make up 13.7 percent.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of couples who married a Korean wife and a foreign husband increased by 7.5 percent year-on-year to 5,000.
American husbands make up 27.7 percent, while 18.4 percent are Chinese and 15.8 percent are Vietnamese.
Currently, South Korea is a popular place for Thai workers after Taiwan, with over 150,000 workers.
