People are criticizing anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for spreading crazy lies about abortion providers conducting experiments on babies after they are born.
“Abortion providers are actually taking out the hearts, kidneys, and brain tissue from babies that are born alive without anesthesia for sick experiments,” Greene wrote on X Sunday afternoon, continuing a fake conspiracy theory.
“Where is the compassion? This type of work is extremely bad. And in most cases, it’s against the law. That’s why I’m hosting a Hearing on Investigating the Black Market of Baby Organ Harvesting this Tuesday at 2 PM ET.”
Greene’s post included information supposedly from anti-abortion and anti-vax activist Dr. Theresa Deisher, who claimed – according to a post from the right-wing account Wall Street Apes – that babies are being born alive and having their organs taken for research while their hearts are still beating.
The accusations could come from a disproven claim that Planned Parenthood was selling fetal tissue for profit against federal law after anti-abortion activists tried and failed to trick the organization in 2015. The man behind the failed act – David Daleiden – is scheduled to speak at Greene’s upcoming hearing.
But people on X had no patience for Greene’s nonsense. One popular progressive account criticized Greene for creating a “mix of false statements and fearmongering designed to distort public perception.”
The post continued, “These stories are not just factually empty; they’re part of a bigger strategy to weaken public confidence in science and medicine.”
The post also noted that “Greene’s portrayal of fetal tissue research is a scare tactic, simply put.”
“This research is controlled by strict ethical standards and laws, unlike the wild west scenario she’s describing. The idea of researchers preying on live babies for experiments is not just scientifically absurd; it’s an intentional deceit meant to equate legal research with cruel acts. This is not about protecting the unborn; it’s about undermining trust in science and medical ethics for political gain.”
Many others joined in to express similar thoughts.
In 2021, Greene was removed from all her House committee assignments for promoting conspiracy theories online, including ones claiming that all school shootings are fake, that a plane never hit the Pentagon during the September 11 terrorist attacks, that California wildfires were ignited by a Jewish-owned space laser, and accusing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of cutting off a child’s face and wearing it.
