As spring training enters its final week, the Red Sox have cut more players, getting closer to finalizing their Opening Day roster.
On Monday morning, the club revealed that they have sent catcher Tyler Heineman and left-hander Joe Jacques to Triple-A, and reassigned several other players to the minor league camp.
The Red Sox now have 42 players left in the big league camp.
The most noteworthy cut on Monday was Yorke, the eighth-ranked prospect for the Red Sox according to MLB Pipeline. Yorke had an extended period with the big leaguers in camp, playing in 15 games. He spent last season in Double-A and is expected to start this season in either Portland or move up to Triple-A Worcester.
Among the players remaining in the big league camp are seven non-roster invitees, including pitchers Joely Rodriguez and Lucas Luetge, catchers Roberto Perez and Mark Kolozsvary, first baseman C.J. Cron, outfielder Mark Contreras, and infielder/outfielder Eddy Alvarez. Cron has a good chance of making the Opening Day roster as the back-up first baseman, and either Rodriguez or Luetge could potentially join Brennan Bernardino as the second left-handed pitcher in the bullpen.
