Today, a court in Ratchaburi ruled that Pareena Kraikupt, a former Palang Pracharath MP, must pay Bt7.6 million for the by-election expenses incurred by the Election Commission following her removal as an MP due to ethical violations.
The court has stated that Pareena must transfer the money to the Election Commission within 30 days. If she does not follow the order, her assets will be taken or she will be arrested and put in jail.
Last April, Pareena was found guilty of serious ethical misconduct by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders.
As a result, she lost her MP status, received a lifetime ban on running for political office, and was suspended from political and election rights for 10 years.
This decision was made after the National Anti-Corruption Commission determined that the MP had illegally taken over 113.76 hectares of land in February of the previous year.
