The African American Museum of Bucks County, (AAMBC), is happy to announce a unique jazz concert for the community, featuring Shantel Hubert and the jazz band, Social Justice, on March 24, 2024. The concert starts at 3:00 PM and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception at 4:00 pm. The event will take place in the Auditorium at Pennswood Village, 1382 Newtown – Langhorne Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.
Tickets for the event cost $20 and can be bought at: aamuseumbucks.org/events. All proceeds from the event will go to the Museum’s building fund for further renovation of its new home at Boone Farm.
Boone Farm is situated near Pennswood Village at the intersection of Route 413 and Bridgetown Pike in Middletown Township. The Bucks County Commissioners leased the property to the AAMBC for $1/year and have managed the costs of construction and renovation at the historic stone building. The Museum needs to raise an additional $2 million this year to complete renovations and outfit the interior as an operating museum. Its aim is to open in early 2025.
Through original musical performance, poetry, and lecture, singer and educator Shantel Hubert celebrates the great American poet, playwright, novelist, and Harlem Renaissance artist, Langston Hughes. Supported by a jazz trio, Shantel’s performance of “Intersection Between the Veiled and the Masked” explores Hughes’ timeless work in connection with contemporary calls for social and racial justice.
“During these particularly challenging times, it is important to share how artists—especially writers of the Harlem Renaissance—used their works as a tool for community upliftment, connection, and social change,” explains Shantel.
“The AAMBC is privileged to present this unique program to the Bucks County community, and we are thankful to Pennswood Village for allowing AAMBC to use their beautiful setting for this event. It is wonderful to have such community support from our close neighbors,” said Linda Salley, President, and Executive Director of the African American Museum of Bucks County.
