Finn Wolfhard has given details on season five of Stranger Things, revealing that there are significant changes ahead.
Production recently started on the fifth and final season of the extremely popular sci-fi show, also featuring Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.
The plot is closely guarded, but the end of season four saw the group reuniting to confront Vecna, after separate battles in Hawkins and beyond.
In a new interview, Finn, who plays Mike Wheeler, explained the dynamics would be very different from what we’ve seen in recent parts.
Illuminating the upcoming episodes, the 21-year-old – who is about to appear in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – assured that audiences would see more of ‘leader Mike’ again, and a return to the atmosphere of the first season.
‘This last season is like a crossroads, and so we’re getting back into a lot of the dynamics of season one, which is really enjoyable,’ he teased. ‘Every season has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger, and this season is huge, but it’s also kind of isolated as well. So it’s really enjoyable, and I’m very excited for people to see it.’
Finn was also excited about having scenes with co-stars that he ‘hadn’t really acted with for a long time’, after the separate nature of the fourth season, while sharing his excitement at reuniting with Charlie Heaton and Noah again.
Thinking about the difference in the last season, he continued to the Hollywood Reporter: ‘We really didn’t shoot very much for the first few months of production, because they were so focused on all the Hawkins stuff. So I was really jealous.
‘I was like, “Aw, man.” Even when I finally watched the show, my favorite part was watching the other guys in Hawkins. I just liked that storyline so much.
‘Not being around everyone all the time was definitely a bummer about filming 4, but 5 is the opposite. We’re all together all the time, and a bunch of us live around the corner and across the street from each other in real life. So the cast is really seeing each other a lot, and we’re in a lot of the same scenes, which has been really great.
‘We’re about three months in, and it’s really crazy. You think about how to be as present as possible, but then at the same time, you’re conflicted that this is the last one. So I’m trying to find that balance of staying present while also knowing that this is going to be the last season. But it’s been great.’
At the beginning of the year, we were all sent into a spin when the official Netflix account shared a photo of the cast, including Millie, Finn, Caleb McLaughlin and co, gathered together in preparation for the last-ever season, after waiting 18 months for production to begin.
Sadie Sink could also be seen in the upload, proving that Max Mayfield would be making a comeback – after the character saw out the last episodes in a coma.
After Eleven was assaulted by Vecna, she utilized her extraordinary abilities to revive her friend, who was left in a state of severe physical and mental impairment.
However, this demonstrates that there is optimism that Max could rehabilitate in time to assist the Hawkins group in sealing the entrance to the alternate dimension for good.
Stranger Things can be streamed on Netflix at the moment.
