The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Wednesday a recall of specific cashews sold at Walmart because the cans were wrongly labeled and did not have the right allergen warnings.
John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (JBSS) issued a voluntary recall of certain Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews sold at Walmart stores.
The affected products come in an 8.25-oz plastic can with a blue label and have a “best used by” date of July 8, 2025 GH2.
JBSS, the maker of Great Value products, found out about the issue when a customer reported that a can labeled as honey roasted cashews actually contained coconut cashews.
“An investigation revealed that a small number of wrong honey roasted cashew labels were put on the plastic cans of coconut cashews during the manufacturing process,” the company’s announcement said.
The recall is due to “undeclared milk and coconut allergens” according to the announcement.
“People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to coconut or milk could have serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product with the affected best if used by date listed below,” the warning mentioned.
The company stated that no negative reactions have been reported, but advised customers who still have the product not to eat it. Customers should get rid of the product or return it to Walmart for a full refund, the company recommended.
The product was sold on Walmart.com and in the following states: AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VT, WV.
The product’s UPC is 078742133348.
