Kate Abdo states Jamie Carragher has said sorry after the Liverpool legend’s uncomfortable remarks during CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage this week.
Abdo hosts the US coverage of the competition with former Premier League stars Thierry Henry, Micah Richards, and Carragher, in their regular spots as Arsenal played Porto in the second leg of their last 16 tie on Tuesday night.
Carragher, wearing an Arsenal shirt in one segment, told Abdo and Henry they would have to wear the shirt next, with Abdo stating she is ‘loyal to Manchester United thank you very much’.
Carragher then remarked ‘not to Malik’ – a comment that astonished and silenced his co-stars.
Carragher tried to nervously laugh off the incident with Abdo replying: ‘Why would you even say that?’
The British presenter recently confirmed she is in a relationship with former heavyweight boxer Malik Scott, the current trainer of former world champion Deontay Wilder.
Carragher’s cringe-worthy comments were widely criticised but at the start of the CBS broadcast on Wednesday night, Abdo handled the situation in a dignified manner, suggesting Carragher’s comments had ‘gone too far’ but that the former defender has offered his apologies.
Starting the show, Abdo described her co-hosts Henry, Richards, and Carragher as her ‘brothers’, with the Arsenal legend ‘someone who ‘always says the right thing’ and the ‘big brother we all look up to and aspire to.’
Shifting her focus to Carragher, Abdo continued: ‘the middle child, Jamie Carragher, the chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention.
‘Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes he does. But all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and ‘accept’.
Abdo continued the segment by describing Richards as ‘little bro,’ who is ‘loud but loveable’ and ‘everybody’s favourite’.
She finished the impressive introduction with: ‘Like a good family, we stick together. Another day, another show. Good to be with you all.’
