The Juvenile and Family Court in Sa Kaeo province fined the parents of five teenagers 5,000 baht each. The teenagers are accused of killing a 47-year-old woman in early January and getting rid of her body near a school pond.
The court found the five sets of parents guilty of encouraging or allowing their children to behave inappropriately, which made it more likely for them to commit crimes, in accordance with the Child Protection Act. The penalties include three months in prison and/or a maximum fine of 30,000 baht upon conviction.
The court originally fined each of the parents 10,000 baht, but reduced the amount by half due to their confessions.
The incident occurred on January 12.th, when the body of the victim, “Buapun”, was discovered near a pond next to the Sri Aranyothai kindergarten school in Sa Kaeo province. Police then called in the victim’s husband, 56-year-old Panya, for questioning and he confessed to attacking the victim with a chair after a heated argument. He then admitted to dumping her body near the school after realizing she was dead.
A subsequent review of the CCTV system in the area around her usual convenience store revealed five teenagers approaching the victim on two motorcycles and teasing her. The footage also captured the fatal attack.
The evidence resulted in the arrest of the five teenagers two days later, and Panya was released from custody. The five suspects reportedly admitted to attacking the victim and discarding her body near the school.
