The campaign for President Joe Biden to be reelected gathered $10 million after the State of the Union speech last week, which his campaign manager described as the biggest 24-hour collection so far.
Biden has been accumulating funds while his presumed opponent in the November election, Donald Trump, spent millions in a contested primary. The former president’s political operation has also been assisting with legal expenses related to his four criminal charges.
According to a statement on Sunday by campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez, February was the best month for grassroots fundraising for Biden's reelection bid.
Biden's one-hour speech on Thursday, in which he criticized Trump and presented his plans for a second term, served as the unofficial start of the campaign, after Trump secured the Republican nomination in the Super Tuesday primaries.
Despite voters in battleground states viewing the U.S. economy as improving, Biden is behind Trump in seven swing states considered most likely to determine the election, as per a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll from February.
Based on his State of the Union speech, Biden's campaign is investing $30 million in a ad blitz in battleground states, including a television ad mocking his age. The president plans to visit more swing states this week, with stops scheduled in New Hampshire, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
