Max George has pulled out of his most recent role because of 'unexpected medical reasons', which has left fans very disappointed.
In November of last year, it was announced that The Wanted singer was going to make his debut as an actor on stage in a play called The Syndicate.
Based on the BBC show by Kay Mellor and directed by Gaynor Faye, the production tells the story of five supermarket employees who have to deal with the big impact of sharing a huge £24million lottery jackpot.
Max, 35, was supposed to star alongside Samantha Giles and Brooke Vincent in the play.
However, in a message shared on his Instagram Story, the musician – who is in a relationship with actress Maisie Smith – announced that he had to withdraw from the cast.
‘Hey everyone. Really upset but for personal reasons I won’t be in “The Syndicate”,’ he wrote.
‘It’s going to be an incredible show and I wish Gaynor and all the cast the best of luck. I’ll be there to cheer you all on once I’m feeling better! MG.’
It’s been reported that he had to step down from his role ‘because of unexpected medical reasons’.
Oliver Anthony – the son of Gaynor and grandson of late scriptwriter Kay, who passed away in 2022 – has taken over Max's role in the play as supermarket assistant Jamie.
Fans of Max expressed their sadness about the news on social media.
On X, Katie wrote: ‘I’m absolutely devastated @MaxGeorge has come out of the Syndicate show. He was the only reason we had booked tickets. But I hope he is ok.
‘Sending all my love and support to you Max . Hope you get well soon 🥰😘.’
Paige added: ‘@MaxGeorge hope you feel better soon sending lots of love 😘❤️xxx.’
Claire also wrote: ‘Sorry to hear that you’re not longer doing The Syndicate. Hope it’s nothing too serious. 💜 x.’
Fans of the singer expressed their confusion when it was announced that Gaynor and Oliver had joined the cast of the play, with no mention of why Max was absent.
‘What about Max we have not been told nothing about Max,’ a fan called Keighleigh wrote on Instagram.
‘Is Max not doing it anymore?’ Caroline also questioned.
The TV series of The Syndicate first aired in 2012, with stars including Timothy Spall, Matthew Lewis, Joanna Page and Matthew McNulty in the cast.
It spanned for four seasons, with the final episode airing in 2021.
