The Patriots have re-signed their main tight end.
The Patriots and tight end Hunter Henry have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The contract is valued at $27 million and could reach a maximum of $30 million with $16 million guaranteed, based on insider information.
In 2023, Henry, who was a team captain, was going to become a free agent as the best available tight end, but the Patriots secured him with a three-year extension.
The Patriots brought in Henry on a three-year deal as a free agent in 2021. He has recorded 133 receptions for 1,531 yards and 17 touchdowns in 48 games over three seasons. Although he missed three games in 2023, he managed to catch 42 passes on 61 targets for 419 yards and six touchdowns.
Before re-signing Henry, the Patriots only had La’Michael Pettway as their tight end. Mike Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown are also currently free agents at the position.
The Patriots have been active this week ahead of the start of free agency on Monday, with the open tampering period under new head coach Jerod Mayo and de facto general manager Eliot Wolf. They have signed offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor and re-signed cornerback Alex Austin and offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr. on Thursday. Additionally, they applied the transition tag to safety Kyle Dugger earlier in the week.
