The body of a man was found packed into a 200-liter plastic drum and coated with cement on Saturday. It was recovered from Map Prachan Reservoir in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri.
The remains have been transported to the Police General Hospital for identification and autopsy.
Yesterday, divers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were requested by Pol Maj-Gen Thiradet Thumsutee, a commander attached to Metropolitan Police Bureau, to search for a 200-liter plastic drum in the reservoir.
It took the divers approximately two hours to locate the drum in three meters of water, just about two meters from the shore. When the drum was opened, the body of a man, around 170-cm tall, was discovered inside, covered by cement.
The identity of the victim is not yet known, but police suspect that he could be a South Korean, 35-year-old Roh Eui Jong, whom the South Korean Embassy in Bangkok reported missing at Khlong Tan police station on May 7th.
Pol Maj-Gen Thiradet stated the mother of the suspected victim received a call, made from her son’s phone by an anonymous man, informing her that her son had disposed of their stash of illegal narcotics in water and asking that she send them 3 million baht in ransom money by 8am on May 8th.
The police investigation indicates that Roh Eui Jong was abducted from his apartment in the Khlong Tan area on May 3rd.
Meanwhile, Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp Poonsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, mentioned yesterday that they have managed to identify two suspects, one of whom left Thailand on May 9th.
He added that police have been investigating the abduction to confirm whether more people are involved.
