They found the body of a man inside a 200-liter plastic drum that was filled with cement on Saturday. They pulled it out of Map Prachan Reservoir in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri.
The Police General Hospital has received the remains for identification and autopsy.
Yesterday, divers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were asked to search for the 200-liter plastic drum in the reservoir by Pol Maj-Gen Thiradet Thumsutee, a commander attached to Metropolitan Police Bureau.
It took the divers around two hours to locate the drum in three meters of water, just about two meters from the shore. When they opened the drum, they found the body of a man, who was approximately 170 centimeters tall, inside, covered in cement.
The identity of the victim is currently unknown, but the police suspect that he may be Roh Eui Jong, a 35-year-old South Korean who was reported missing by the South Korean Embassy in Bangkok at Khlong Tan police station on May 7th.
Pol Maj-Gen Thiradet mentioned that the mother of the suspected victim received a call from an unknown person, who used her son’s phone to claim that her son had disposed of their illegal drugs in the water and demanded a ransom of 3 million baht be sent by 8am on May 8th.
According to police investigations, Roh Eui Jong was kidnapped from his apartment in the Khlong Tan area on May 3rd.
Meanwhile, Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp Poonsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, stated that they have identified two suspects, one of whom left Thailand on May 9th.
He also mentioned that the police are looking into whether more people were involved in the abduction.
