A man, who said he was stuck in a sewer in the Phaya Thai area of Bangkok for four days, was saved today.
A driver, who parked near a manhole cover, heard cries for help from below and informed the police. An emergency team quickly arrived, but they couldn't lift the manhole cover.
They instructed the trapped man to make his way through the sewer to another manhole about ten meters away. That cover was easily removed, and the man was pulled out through it.
Police reported that the man, named Yossakorn Namsai, from Chaiyaphum province, claimed that someone had tried to kidnap him, so he hid in the sewer.
To verify his claim, the police checked his criminal record, which was clean.
The man was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.
