Jon Stewart is taking on the additional duty of hosting “The Weekly Show” while maintaining his role on “The Daily Show,” and is starting a new Comedy Central podcast.
MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Audio announced on Thursday that “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” set to debut early next month, will have the host and comedian exploring important current events topics.
The new weekly show will feature interviews with newsmakers, authors, and celebrities.
Stewart said in a statement that after thinking and contemplation, he has decided to work for two days a week instead of one.
Stewart made headlines in February by returning to “The Daily Show” as a part-time host and executive producer on Monday nights, with different hosts taking over for the rest of the week. The 61-year-old’s return to “The Daily Show,” where he was the original host for 16 years before departing in 2015, led to a boost in ratings, marking the show's highest viewership numbers in nearly six years.
The president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, Chris McCarthy, called Stewart’s comeback to “The Daily Show” a strong reminder of his significance to the national conversation, when announcing the upcoming podcast. The podcast, according to McCarthy, will enable Stewart to further examine complex issues and provide clarity with his sharp humor.The Stewart podcast will be accessible on all major platforms.
