A village leader and the head of a local government organization were shot and killed in Nongchik district in the southern province of Pattani yesterday.
Three other people, including a woman, were hurt during the violence and taken to Pattani Hospital.
The village leader who was killed was Sithichai Petchsuriya from Ban Rai village, and the head of the local government organization was Cherdchai Promrajkaew of Korlortanyong SAO.
The shooting happened at around 6:30pm, during a sports event.
The commander of the Fourth Army Area, Lt Gen Santi Sakuntanark, then ordered increased security in the area and to do everything possible to catch the perpetrators as soon as possible.
