Welcome to Seven in Seven, where we discuss upcoming shows in the region for the next week. Regardless of your music preference, such as rock ’n’ roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter or indie, there will always be something to enjoy.
Here are seven great shows for the week of May 10:
Wage War + Nothing More — This Friday at Wind Creek Event Center
Wage War and Nothing More are bringing their co-headlining tour to Bethlehem. Wage War is preparing to release their fifth album, “Stigma,” on June 21. They gained attention with their 2015 debut album, “Blueprints,” featuring fan favorites like “Alive” and “The River.” Nothing More will release “Carnal” a week after Wage War, continuing to create powerful anthems with catchy hooks. Together, these two bands offer a mix of new, old, and classic metal music.
Julia Pratt — This Saturday at The Foundry
Julia Pratt, a rising local talent, is headlining The Foundry for the release of her new EP, “Family Feud.” Over the past few years, she has gained recognition in Philadelphia and beyond. Pratt's collaboration with indie-folk giants Mount Joy resulted in the moving track, “A Little Love.” She has also released her “Two To Tango” EP, performed live for WXPN, and opened for renowned artists like Brandi Carlile, The Revivalists, and The Head and the Heart.
Alpha Wolf — This Saturday at The Theatre of Living Arts
Aussie metalcore giants Alpha Wolf are headlining in support of their latest album, “Half Living Things,” released in April. The self-produced record showcases the band at their most intense and ferocious, featuring heavy tracks infused with chugs, grooves, melodics, and breakdowns.
Starset — This Monday at XL Live
Starset achieved a major milestone last year, securing their first No. 1 rock radio single with “Waiting on the Sky To Change,” featuring Breaking Benjamin. Known for their immersive live shows called “Demonstrations,” the band's latest tour, titled “Immersion: The Final Chapter,” presents a dystopian futuristic narrative woven into their music, videos, and live performance.
SiM — Tuesday at Brooklyn Bowl
The Japanese reggae punk band SiM is currently on their first North American headlining tour with special guests Fame on Fire and Within Destruction. The tour is named “Playdead World Tour Season 1” after their latest album, “Playdead,” which was released last September. The album includes “Under the Tree,” as seen on the popular anime series “Attack on Titan,” and “Red,” the theme song for the latest season of the Netflix anime series “Kengan Ashura.”
Buck Meek — Thursday, May 16, at Ardmore Music Hall
Buck Meek, the guitarist for indie folk band Big Thief, performs his solo material with a more country sound compared to his main band. Choosing textured guitar over catchy riffs, his voice fluctuates as he expresses the complexities of love and a connection to nature, as heard on his latest solo album, “Haunted Mountain,” released last summer. The songs on the album were written in various locations like the mountains in Portugal and the Swiss Alps, reflecting the environments that have influenced him.
Imminence — Thursday, May 16, at The Theatre of Living Arts and Friday, May 17, at H-MAC
Following the success of last year’s North American tour, Imminence is returning for more shows. The Swedish alternative metalcore band's previous tour was completely sold out within 48 hours, with venues having to upgrade due to high demand and ticket sales reaching up to 1,500 per show. Over the years, the band has created a unique style by incorporating classical string arrangements with Scandinavian metal influences, making them one of the most innovative and exciting acts in the market today.
