Outgoing Vice Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangkhetkeow is among the five Thai recipients of the spring decorations from the Imperial Palace this week, according to an informed diplomatic source.
He will receive “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” for his important contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Thailand. Sihasak also served as a former ambassador to Japan.
The award ceremony will happen on May 9 at the Imperial Palace. Emperor Narukito will lead the ceremony.
Sihasak has submitted his resignation letter, effective on May 13 after his return from Japan. During his time in office, he has assisted former Deputy Prime Ministera and Foreign Minister Pranpree Bahindra-Nukara in conducting the country’s diplomacy to enhance Thailand’s regional and international presence, especially on regional issues including Myanmar and Asean.
Four other Thai individuals who also received the decoration are Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, former transportation and finance minister, who is honored with “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” for his role in strengthening bilateral relation between Japan and Thailand in the field of transport.
