The latest cabinet decision includes fixing the maximum price of diesel at Bt33/litre, reducing electricity cost by 19.05 satang per unit for households consuming up to 300 units per month, and maintaining the cooking gas price at Bt423 for a 15kg cylinder.
The Energy Ministry proposed these measures to ease financial pressure on consumers and help the economy bounce back from increasing oil prices.
As per the cabinet decision, the Oil Fuel Fund will be utilized to subsidize the diesel price within the new limit. In case the fund faces financial challenges, the cabinet may seek support from the Central Fund.
The Oil Fuel Fund has been operating at a deficit of around 100 billion baht due to subsidizing diesel and cooking gas prices.
During today's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin directed the Industry Minister to expedite the approval of permits for approximately 200 new factories, which have faced delays within the Industrial Works Department.
Prior to the cabinet meeting, the prime minister and his reshuffled cabinet had a group photo taken at Government House. The new cabinet participated in a swearing-in ceremony last Friday, following a Royal Command announcing the new line-up.
