Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra says that the Bank of Thailand's independence from government control is making it difficult for the government to solve economic problems.
She said that the management of fiscal policy has been unbalanced, causing public debt to keep increasing.
She said, 'If the central bank doesn't understand and work with the government, Thailand's large public debt won't go down.'
She also blamed the military junta and the previous administration for the country's current problems, saying they created a bloated and slow bureaucratic system that can't keep up with economic and technological changes.
They made it incapable of coping with the rapid changes in the economic and technological landscapes, the modern security threats, resulting in the unprecedented growth of the underground economy and a lack of employment opportunities.
Speaking to party members, Thaksin's youngest daughter said that the Pheu Thai-led government has transformed from a bloated and slow administration to a 'digital government' that is transparent, energetic, and fast-acting.
This change is shown in its plan to restructure the bureaucratic system, get rid of old laws, and make Thailand the regional center for aviation and finance.
On the economy, the Pheu Thai leader said the government won't just put more money into the economy by raising the minimum wage, but will also work on attracting more foreign investment to create more jobs for Thais.
Paetongtarn said that the Pheu Thai party has the most experience in running the country and that none of the country's long-standing problems will be fixed if the party isn't leading the government.
She said, 'We've wasted a lot of time and opportunities due to coups. We believe we can do well and achieve a perfect 10 before the next election.'
