A private hospital in Samut Prakan has been fined 100,000 baht by the Emergency Medicine Committee (EMC) because it turned down treating a seriously injured patient, who subsequently passed away after being rushed to another hospital.
The patient, a police officer, was hit by a vehicle while on duty near the unnamed private hospital, according to the committee.
After reviewing witness testimonies and evidence, the EMC determined that the patient required urgent care, and as a result, the hospital was obligated to provide emergency treatment to the best of its ability.
The hospital had declined requests from an EMT unit to bring the patient to the hospital on two occasions, leading the EMT team to seek an alternative, where the patient was declared dead.
According to the EMC, this was the second time the hospital had refused to provide critical emergency treatment. In a previous case, a Taiwanese tourist who was hit by a car while crossing a road also died after being taken to another hospital.
