Goodwill Keystone Area will open its new Pottstown store on Thursday, April 25, after several months of work and three donation events.
Before the store officially opens to the public Thursday, a ribbon cutting will be held at 8 a.m. at the location in the Pottstown Plaza Shopping Center, 799 State Road. Representatives from Goodwill and invited local officials will be there for the opening.
Ed Lada Jr., president of Goodwill Keystone Area, said in a statement that they are very excited to open a new store and donation center in Pottstown and contribute to the ongoing revitalization of Pottstown Plaza.
He also added that due to the generosity of the citizens of Pottstown, through their donations and patronage, they will create 32 jobs at the Pottstown location. Each donation and purchase support programs that are helping to advance sustainability so that individuals and families can thrive and flourish.
Construction on the Pottstown store began in January, following Goodwill Keystone Area’s announcement that it planned to open the store in the spring.
According to Mark McGaffin, director of communications and marketing for Goodwill Keystone Area, the location is among the organization’s top five largest stores.
The location has 20,000 square feet of retail space and a sizable production area, and the potential for future expansion to accommodate growing customer needs, McGaffin said in a Tuesday email.
At the rear of the store is a donor drop-off area with a steel awning to provide protection from the weather, he added.
The new location signifies Goodwill Keystone Area's return to the Pottstown area after operating a store in Pottstown from 1996 to early 2011 at the Pottstown Center off Shoemaker Road.
According to Goodwill, the first 100 customers at the Pottstown store will receive a free reusable bag with their purchase.
Goodwill Keystone Area will accept donations at the new location, including antiques, art, books, CDs, records, videos, DVDs, clothing, footwear, games, toys, housewares, jewelry, accessories, linens, rugs, musical instruments, outerwear, and sports equipment.
