A man from Los Angeles was taken into custody on Sunday after unlawfully entering the home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) while occupants were present, as stated by local law enforcement and the mayor’s office.
Ephraim Matthew Hunter, 29, broke a window around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday to get into the Getty House, which is Bass’s official home on Irving Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported.
Authorities arrived and apprehended Hunter without any trouble. He was charged with burglary.
Both Bass’s office and the police confirmed that no one was hurt during the reported intrusion.
“At around 6:40 AM this morning, an intruder entered Getty House through a window. Mayor Bass and her family were unharmed and secure. The Mayor is thankful to LAPD for their response and for apprehending the suspect,” Bass’s office mentioned in a statement on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement declined to give further details about a possible motive.
Bass became the first female mayor of Los Angeles in 2022, following over a decade of service in the U.S. House.
