To celebrate Earth Day, President Biden is revealing $7 billion in grants for solar energy projects that serve lower and middle income communities at an event in northern Virginia on Monday.
The aim of the program is to reduce the high initial costs for home solar installations. This could assist in building a more affordable and dependable electrical grid compared to the current one reliant on fossil fuels. It would also diminish the environmental impact of power generation, according to the administration.
Biden is also expected to discuss plans to create 2,000 jobs in the American Climate Corps, a federal initiative inspired by President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies. The choice of location for the event is a tribute to the former president: Prince William Forest Park, established in 1936 under the Roosevelt administration's Civilian Conservation Corps.
Biden is set to speak at 2:15 p.m. EDT.
