The National Unity Government (NUG), which opposes the Myanmar government, has asked all groups and authorities to give aid to the people of Myanmar who are fleeing the civil war in their country and searching for temporary shelter in Thailand.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry of the resistance forces yesterday stated that the NUG, its ethnic partners, and related groups will work with the Thai government and other relevant organizations to offer support to the displaced people from Myanmar.
The statement blamed the Myanmar military for a variety of attacks, such as using artillery and air strikes on public buildings and civilian properties in and around Myawaddy township. This has caused thousands of civilians to flee across the border into Thailand’s Mae Sot district of Tak province and the surrounding areas.
The statement mentioned that the number of displaced people entering Thailand is likely to grow in the next few days due to the increasing indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets by the Myanmar junta.
The statement also expressed gratitude for the assistance, shelter, and other support provided to Burmese civilians by the Thai government, Thai military, and authorities in Tak province.
The statement emphasized that the Royal Thai government's actions depict it as a supportive neighbor, and the people of Myanmar will always remember this help and support.
