Eddie Hearn clashed with Ryan Garcia’s father in an angry backstage confrontation that ended with a friendly hug after the Devin Haney fight.
Garcia achieved a remarkable victory over Haney in New York early Sunday morning to secure the biggest win of his career so far.
Matchroom chief Hearn has worked with Haney previously but was very impressed with Garcia’s performance, especially considering the 25-year-old’s mental state leading up to the fight due to his erratic behavior.
Hearn was sharing his post-fight thoughts on camera backstage when the argument suddenly started.
After praising Garcia’s 'amazing' performance, Hearn notices Garcia Snr off-camera and tells him 'well done'.
Garcia Snr is then heard calling Hearn a ‘piece of s**t,’ leading to an angry response from Hearn saying ‘f**k you.’
Garcia Snr then grabbed and shook his crotch in Hearn’s direction, saying: ‘F**k you, you know you’re a piece of s**t and that’s what you get.’
He added: ‘That’s what you get. Now what are you going to say? Luke Campbell and Devin Haney, f*** you. Now who have you got?’
A laughing Hearn calmed the situation, seemingly offering the possibility of a fight between Garcia and his newly-signed welterweight star Jaron Ennis, who joined his stable last week.
Garcia Snr then approached Hearn with a smile on his face saying ‘you’re all good’, and the two shook hands. The American then apologized for ‘getting emotional.’
Hearn said: “It’s a sport and when you win I’ll give you all the respect you deserve. I accept your apology.’
Garcia knocked Haney down three times as he secured a majority decision win over his rival. It was Haney’s first professional loss.
