A young boy tragically died after having difficulty in a pool while attending a birthday celebration.
Garda, Ireland’s police service, confirmed that the boy was swiftly taken by ambulance to the hospital from the Leisure Centre at the Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre in south east county Clare.
The child, who was from nearby Clonlara, had been at a birthday celebration at the hotel.
It is believed that the 7-year-old was found unconscious in the water and efforts were made to attempt to save his life at poolside, The Sun reports.
He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was later declared dead.
A Garda spokesperson said: ‘Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a swimming pool on a premises in Killaloe, Co. Clare, shortly before 3pm on Saturday, April 20th, 2024.
‘A 7-year-old boy was taken from the scene to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later declared deceased.
‘The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.’
The police service stated the death was not being considered suspicious.
