Tottenham player Pedro Porro believes Ruben Amorim has a bright future and is like Ange Postecoglou, who might become Liverpool's manager in the summer.
Amorim, 39, is considered one of the best young managers in European football and is reportedly the top choice for Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Xabi Alonso was the favorite for the job but essentially ruled himself out by committing to Bayer Leverkusen for the near future, the recently crowned champions of the Bundesliga, last month.
Recent reports from Germany suggested that Amorim was offered a three-year deal and had an agreement in principle to manage Liverpool.
However, The Portuguese strongly denied these rumors last week, stating that he is fully focused on the rest of Sporting’s season as they are seven points ahead of Benfica at the top of the Primeira Liga table.
Amorim led Sporting to the latest league title in 2021/22 and Porro played a crucial role after joining on loan from Manchester City that season, featuring in 30 matches throughout the campaign.
Porro spent another 18 months in Lisbon before moving to Spurs, and it's clear that he has good memories of his time under Amorim.
‘He is young, ambitious, and somewhat similar to Ange Postecoglou here at Tottenham,’ the Tottenham right-back told Portuguese publication Expresso.
‘He always wants more, which is why he is one of the most talked-about managers, sought after by many teams in Europe.
‘He has a special way of working and confronts any opponent, which is also similar to what we do at Tottenham. There are several parallels.
‘It is well known how Sporting and Tottenham play, they have a distinct identity, whether they win 5-0 or lose 5-0.’
Nemanja Matic, who played with Amorim at Benfica, is not surprised by the Portuguese's exceptional start in management and thinks he would be a ‘great replacement’ for Klopp at Anfield.
‘I see Ruben Amorim at a great club,’ the Lyon midfielder, formerly of Manchester United and Chelsea, told O Jogo this week.
‘I don’t know if it will be Liverpool, but if it happens I’m sure he’ll be a great replacement for Klopp.
‘Ruben understands football and has the personality and character to be a great coach. He already is right now.
‘I’d like to see him in the Premier League, let’s see what happens from now on.’
