Tottenham player Destiny Udogie has said he will miss the remaining games after getting surgery for an unspecified injury.
This is a big setback for Spurs as they aim to finish in the Premier League top four and qualify for the Champions League, with some important matches coming up.
Udogie has been an important player for Ange Postecoglou with impressive performances in his first season for the club.
However, the 21-year-old will not play any more games this season, and he shared the disappointing news on Saturday via Instagram along with several photos after the operation.
‘A person may make plans in their heart, but the answer comes from the Lord,’ the Italian wrote.
‘An injury ends my season early, but I am still thankful for everyone who has supported me this year.’
It's uncertain what the injury is or how long he will be out, and this also casts doubt on his participation in Euro 2024 with Italy.
Ben Davies is expected to take over at left-back now, starting with the North London derby against Arsenal next Sunday, followed by a match against Chelsea.
Tottenham will also face title contenders Liverpool and Manchester City in the next month.
Udogie joins Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon, and Fraser Forster in being unavailable for the rest of the season, while Richarlison is also recovering from an injury but might be able to play against the Gunners.
Currently, Spurs are just three points behind Aston Villa in fourth place with a game in hand, but their worse goal difference and tough remaining games make it very challenging to qualify for the Champions League.
