65 kids in Suphan Buri province have received medical care in local hospitals since Wednesday, after getting sick with a high fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, following their attendance at Songkran celebrations held at the Banana Species Conservation Centre between April 13 and 17.
Dr. Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, head of the Department of Disease Control, stated today that initial tests indicate that Rotavirus affected the kids.
However, he pointed out that these preliminary tests need confirmation through lab tests from the Medical Science Department, with results expected on Monday.
After discovering that all the patients participated in Songkran celebrations at the Banana Species Conservation Centre, he revealed that health officials were dispatched to collect food and water samples for lab testing.
Dr. Thongchai acknowledged that, at this point, it is uncertain whether the food or drinking water sold at the center were contaminated, or if the water used for splashing or released from the water tunnel were to blame.
Since many individuals from various districts attended Songkran events in the Muang district, he mentioned that health officials from all districts in the province have been instructed to advise people in their areas to monitor for symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea in themselves or their children, and to promptly seek medical attention if these symptoms occur.
