Ramsay Street residents have a reason to celebrate today because Neighbours has been nominated for a prestigious Daytime Emmy Award.
The yearly awards show, which started in 1974, honors the best of US daytime television.
Since Amazon Freevee acquired the Aussie soap last year, and it has been shown worldwide – including in America, making it eligible for nomination (and hopefully to win!).
The show announced the news on Instagram, saying: ‘Neighbours has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award and we are very excited.
‘A big congratulations to all of our amazing cast and crew 👏🎬 🎉 (see you in Hollywood… 🎥)’
This is the first time in the show’s 39 year history that it has received the prestigious recommendation from the members of the Television Academy.
Not too shabby for a show that’s been cancelled twice during that time!
Initially shown on the Seven Network, the show didn’t do well outside of Melbourne where it is produced, and after eight months the final episode aired.
However, rival Channel 10 saw potential in the program and picked it up for a new run two months later.

The very successful revival saw additional sets added, new families and some now very familiar faces – Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce – joining the cast.
It also became Australia’s biggest media export, first arriving on BBC One in the UK in a shakeup to their daytime lineup in autumn 1986, before moving to Channel 5 in 2008.
As viewing figures declined down under, 5 became the principal source of funding and when they decided to cut their investment in 2022, the axe fell once again.
In a soap twist nobody saw coming, streaming giants Amazon picked Neighbours up and new episodes have aired daily on their ad-supported service since September.
Last month it reached 9,000 episodes.
The awards will take place on 7th June, and the show will be up against tough competition in the ‘Best Daytime Drama Series’ category, alongside heavyweights The Bold and The Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and The Restless.
