A federal judge turned down attempts from former President Trump’s two co-defendants in the Mar-a-Lago case to throw out the charges against them.
The decision from Judge Aileen Cannon denies different requests from Trump valet Walt Nauta and property manager Carlos de Oliveira.
Both men are dealing with charges in the case connected to assisting Trump in moving boxes across Mar-a-Lago to hide them from law enforcement, along with Trump’s own lawyer.
Cannon declined attempts from both men to obtain a more detailed explanation of the accusations they are facing, stating that she “cannot say that the Indictment as a whole lacks enough information to help Nauta in getting ready for trial.”
She also concluded that arguments claiming they were unaware of the contents of the boxes were not grounds for dismissing the case, but rather points the two should be ready to present in court.
“Any specific challenges to the Special Counsel’s evidence presentation can be raised at trial, where the Special Counsel will have to prove all essential elements of the obstruction offenses,” she stated.
Cannon’s ruling on the attempt to dismiss the case from Trump’s two co-defendants comes as she has not yet made a decision on numerous motions from the former president seeking to throw out the case.
