A rapist has been given a ten-year prison sentence after his victim helped locate him using a detailed description of his distinct face tattoo and ear piercings.
Luke Kyberd, 29, grabbed the woman in Leamington Spa’s park at 9pm on January 3.
He tried to strangle her, demanded her phone, punched her, and sexually assaulted her.
The woman got away and ran to a nearby restaurant where she asked for help.
A police officer recognized the description as Kybard, who was already known to the force for previous convictions, including brutally beating a disabled teenager. A team then went to Kybard’s home and found him there two hours after the attack..
Kybard admitted to rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, robbery, and intentional strangulation, a newer offense intended to give harsher punishment for non-fatal choking incidents.
After his sentencing, Detective Constable Amy Hall of Warwickshire Police said: ‘The victim must have been terrified of this evil man and she showed great bravery in quickly raising the alarm.
‘After such a traumatic experience, it’s remarkable she was able to provide us with such a detailed description of her attacker that led to Kyberd’s quick identification and arrest.’
Detective Sergeant Nic Norris added: ‘The victim’s courage has allowed us to remove an extremely dangerous offender from the streets, and I want to thank her for supporting this investigation.
‘I hope she can find some comfort in the conviction.’
Luke Kyberd’s description was recognized by an officer familiar with his face from previous crimes.
