287 individuals lost their lives and 2,060 others sustained injuries in 2,044 traffic incidents during this year’s Songkran festival. This includes 28 fatalities and 287 injuries that occurred yesterday. Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul shared this information during a press briefing today.
He mentioned that the main reasons for the accidents were speeding, drunk driving, and reckless overtaking. He also noted that while the number of casualties was lower compared to last year, the number of accidents saw a slight increase.
The majority of the accidents involved motorcycles, and most of the victims were not wearing helmets.
Anutin stated that the road safety command center has been tasked with conducting a thorough analysis of all accident-related data and developing recommendations to present to the cabinet.
