Two main areas on Doi Suthep, a well-known tourist spot in Chiang Mai, had forest fires. The fire could be easily seen from far away.
The governor of Chiang Mai, Nirat Pongsitthaworn, mentioned on social media that the fires began around 21:20 behind Nong Ho Buddha Dhamma Temple.
At 00:20, the governor stated that 50 firefighters were sent and the fire is now completely under control. The assessment of the damage will be provided later in the day.
This is the first time in 3 years that wildfires have occurred in these areas.
Thailand's forest fire season typically runs from February to May. Besides wildfires, Chiang Mai is currently facing air pollution issues.
