A remarkable night of quarter-final action in the Champions League saw Arsenal tied 2-2 at home by Bayern Munich, while Manchester City and Real Madrid had an incredible match that finished 3-3.
Four of Europe’s top teams did not disappoint as they provided entertainment from the beginning, with Manchester City taking the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu within two minutes.
That game had many twists and turns and was illuminated by amazing goals from Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol and Federico Valverde.
The Gunners also took an early lead through Bukayo Saka, then fell behind, with Harry Kane returning to north London and scoring from the penalty spot..
Leandro Trossard saved the day from the bench, calmly scoring an equaliser for Mikel Arteta’s team.
The two matches are perfectly poised as Arsenal go to Munich and Real Madrid visit Manchester for the second legs.
City got off to a perfect start in Madrid as Bernardo Silva scored an unusual free-kick less than two minutes into the match, catching Andriy Lunin out at the near-post.
Aurelien Tchouameni had rashly lunged in on Jack Grealish and the yellow card he got after a minute will keep him out of the second leg.
It was a disastrous start for the home team, but they quickly bounced back, with Eduardo Camavinga equalising and then and Rodrygo putting Real ahead just 14 minutes in.
Camavinga took a speculative shot from distance which was luckily deflected off Ruben Dias and past Stefan Ortega.
Rodrygo was then played in behind the City back four and again was fortunate as Manuel Akanji tracked back but unwittingly prodded the Brazilian’s shot away from his goalkeeper for another deflected goal.
There were opportunities for Real Madrid to extend their lead early in the second half with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius missing, before Phil Foden and then Josko Gvardiol scored fantastic goals.
Foden moved the ball onto his left centrally just outside the penalty box on 66 minutes and then arrowed a shot into the top corner to level up.
That might have been what you expect from Foden, but Gvardiol was a surprise scorer of the next fantastic goal, cutting in from left-back and curling in a fantastic effort past Lunin for his first ever goal for the club.
The home team were not to be outdone in front of their own fans, though, and arguably the best goal was still to come as Federico Valverde hammered in an equaliser.
Vinicius sent a cross from left to right of the penalty area for the onrushing Uruguayan who lashed a volley back across Ortega and into the far corner, which ended the scoring.
There was concern late on for Pep Guardiola as Foden limped off with a possible calf problem, on a night on which Kevin De Bruyne didn’t feature after feeling unwell before kick-off.
At the Emirates Mikel Arteta’s team got off to a brilliant start as Bukayo Saka cut in from the right wing and bent a fantastic effort around Eric Dier and past Manuel Neuer to give the hosts the lead.
Arsenal's strong defense has been a key part of their challenge for the Premier League title this season. However, a mistake by David Raya, who needlessly came off his line, and a loose pass from Gabriel Magalhaes, led to Bayern's equalizer, scored by Serge Gnabry from close range.
Things got worse for Arsenal when William Saliba fouled Leroy Sane inside the Gunners' box after a brilliant run by Sane.
Harry Kane waited for David Raya to make his move before calmly rolling the ball into the net to put Bayern in the lead.
Arsenal were leading for most of the second half but had to wait until the 76th minute to score their equalizer.
Gabriel Jesus's impressive footwork fooled Matthijs de Ligt and Leon Goretzka, creating space for a pass to Trossard, who scored low past Neuer.
In injury time, Arsenal's penalty appeal was denied when Saka was clipped by Neuer inside Bayern's box, but Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg was not convinced and allowed play to continue.
