Twitch streamer Ninja has stated that he’s officially cancer free, after being diagnosed with melanoma.
Ninja, real name Tyler Blevins, surprised the streaming community when he revealed his cancer diagnosis on Twitter last week.
The Twitch star, best known for playing Fortnite, after starting his career as a professional Halo player, announced on March 26 he had been diagnosed with melanoma, after doctors removed a mole on his foot.
Ninja explained at the time that he was awaiting results regarding another ‘dark spot’, to see if the melanoma had spread, and now he’s shared a positive update following that diagnosis.
‘Just got the news from my dermatologist, great news x2!’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘Excision was successful with clear margins. Lesion biopsied nearby showed only mild atypia and was entirely removed with the biopsy.
‘As of right now, I am officially cancer free. Thank you all for the prayers and kind words this last week. Love you all.’
A number of streaming personalities have shared their support in the comments, including 100 Thieves co-owner Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop and professional Super Smash Bros. Melee player Juan ‘Hungrybox’ DeBiedma.
‘Lets gooooo,’ esports personality Jake Lucky wrote in response. Fellow Twitch streamer Nogla added: ‘Great news!’
Ninja, who is aged 32, gained worldwide fame for streaming Fortnite when it first launched in 2017 – which led to US chat show appearances and Twitch streams with Drake.
He later moved to Microsoft’s now-defunkt Mixer platform, in a deal reportedly worth tens of millions, before re-signing with Twitch in September 2020. He currently has the most-followed channel on Twitch, with over 19 million followers.
