The 9th chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston, Marcelo Suarez-Orozco, was officially inaugurated on Friday with Governor Maura Healey in attendance. However, the ceremony was also marked by protesters speaking out against the increase in tuition.
The UMass Board of Trustees Committee on Administration and Finance voted unanimously on Wednesday morning to raise tuition for in-state undergraduate students by 2.5% for the 2024-2025 academic year, bringing it to $17,006. This represents an additional $415 for students at the flagship Amherst campus, and slightly less at the Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell campuses.
