Arsenal legend Robert Pires says there is one player in Mikel Arteta's team that reminds him of himself, which is 'educated' player Gabriel Martinelli.
Pires, widely seen as one of Arsenal’s best players, achieved two Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies during his six-year spell at the club.
The Frenchman, who was mainly used as a winger, scored 85 goals and made 61 assists in 284 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.
Arsenal still holds a special place in Pires’ heart and the former Invincible sees numerous similarities between himself and current player Martinelli.
'Gabriel Martinelli looks like me,' Pires told Media Carre. 'He looks a lot like me because he’s a dribbler, he scores goals, and he is quick.
'He makes good decisions, he plays simply when it’s necessary, and he goes for the challenge when it presents itself.
'When he sees that he is one-on-one he plays for the team and that’s why I really like him. I know him a little bit, he’s educated, and he’s doing well at Arsenal, that’s for sure.'
Martinelli was on the bench for the 0-0 draw against Premier League title rivals Manchester City on Sunday but Arteta has hinted he may start against Luton.
The Gunners play against the Hatters at the Emirates on Wednesday and before the game, Gabriel Jesus has issued a strong warning to their other title rivals Liverpool.
'Anything can happen,' Jesus told Jurgen Klopp’s men, who currently sit top with nine games left. 'It is only two points, the difference [with Liverpool], and then we have a very good goal difference. 'This is the most beautiful part of the season.'
