Martin Keown thinks Liverpool are very likely to win the Premier League ahead of title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal took the lead in the table with a 2-0 victory against Luton Town on Wednesday night but Liverpool will move to the top if they defeat Sheffield United tomorrow.
Manchester City, the defending champions, are still in contention for the title and are just one point behind Arsenal after a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Liverpool aim to win the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield but face competition from a Man City team striving to be the first to win four successive league titles in England.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are aiming to end a 20-year wait for a Premier League title, having finished second last year.
‘Man City can win every game but that doesn’t mean they’ll be champions because Liverpool have the points,’ Gunners legend Keown said on TNT Sports.
‘If you look at Liverpool’s games, they just look better to me. The Manchester United game on Sunday is huge, if they win that I would be telling the players they can become Premier League champions.
‘When you look at their fixtures, that’s the one tough game for them, and they’ll want payback for the FA Cup game.
‘I just feel Liverpool, having those two points over Arsenal, it makes them firm favourites.’
Keown expressed his opinion on the Premier League title race before Arsenal emerged as 2-0 victors against Luton, who are fighting against relegation.
Hatters captain Tom Lockyer, who collapsed during a match against Bournemouth in December, was alongside Keown as part of TNT Sports’ punditry team.
‘It’s going to go right down to the wire, isn’t it?’ Lockyer said when asked for his take on the three-way title race.
‘The thing I think Liverpool and Arsenal will be worried about is that we know Man City can go on and win every game, they’ve proved that year after year. Whether they will this year? I’m not sure.’
