Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines have given out tsunami alerts following a big earthquake that happened in Taiwan on Tuesday.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has said that tsunami warnings are in place for the coastal regions of the country.
Taiwan had a 7.5 magnitude earthquake at 8:58 a.m. on Apr. 3, 2024, with a depth of about 35 kilometers, or 21 miles, as reported by The Associated Press. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that there have been small changes in sea level detected on the southern side of Japan.
JMA advised residents in areas around Okinawa Island, Miyakojima Island, and Yaeyama Island to evacuate right away, cautioning that waves could reach 9.8 ft high.
“Tsunami waves are approaching the coasts. Evacuate as quickly as possible. Waves can hit repeatedly. Continue to evacuate until all warnings are lifted,” JMA said, first reported by Al Jazeera.
